Which typeface would match the style of the musical symbol ff (fortissimo)?

albatross

Hello all,

have read around various places online and this seemed to be the most informed on all typeface matters.

I'm trying to find a font to write in that will be a match for the ff fortissimo symbol

I found this discussion elsewhere in the forum http://typophile.com/node/58526
but those suggestions weren't quite right as a match for the fortissimo lettering

The closest looked to be the Berthold Bodoni Old Style BQ Italic but it's not quite right and i can't afford to buy fonts and not have them be the correct one.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Our new Consul Italic might fit the bill.

Just make sure you turn off the ligatures in the type tester when you take a look.

ITC Century Bold Italic is pretty close.

That does look pretty close to the example, but I'm not sure there really is a "correct" typeface for musical notation.

Have you thought about using one of the numerous musical notation fonts which would contain that symbol?

Oh, we've had a very similar discussion before.
See this thread: http://typophile.com/node/58526

Doesn't Adobe have a font called Sonata that has all the musical notation?

*slaps forehead* Sorry – posting links that were already listed is way uncool.

Don, I think the quest is on for a complete font in that style.

Doh, I knew I should have read more closely. Thanks Nina.

thanks guys will work on these today

I would definitely say that Bodoni bold italic is closer than Century bold italic; there are several different versions of Bodoni, so one can look for a closer match using sites like myfonts.com .
