List of characters in Opentype

H.Dezign

Im looking for a list of all the characters in a opentype pro font that can be copy/pasted into a indesign document.

So far the specimens ive found are locked for copy/paste text and i need a complete list of the charecters for some tests.

thx in advance

There is no standard character set for an OpenType Pro font. Fonts vary by foundry and the number of glyphs in an OpenType font can reach 10s of thousands, especially when you include non-latin chracters. Is there a specific kind of language support you are interested in?

If you have InDesign and you have a pro font, you should be able to access all the glyphs through the glyph palette.

Beat me to the draw!

I guess I’m not really sure of what the object here is.

I just would like to have a list that i can copy/paste from of characters that are e.g in the fontfont opentype pro version - Central European, Baltic, Turk and Latin 3 - for some reason the charts in fontfont userguide are rasterized.

All the pdf i’ve been able to find at various foundries are also locked or rasterized -

Im not trying to steal fonts - just a list of all characters in the “western” language

Might find some plain text documents on the Unicode site?

Try this as well:

If you’re on Leopard, try this:

“Printable Font Book

Print out comprehensive previews of your fonts, including sample text in varying sizes or all available glyphs. Just select fonts in Font Book, choose Print from the File menu, and select any of the three built-in report types”

Taken from Apple’s site

You can save a PDF document from the bottom left of the dialog box.

Whoa, that was clever with the Font Book, must try it.

Is this one helpful?

I’m pretty sure Adobe’s glyph complement PDFs are not locked to prevent copy/paste. You can go to the Adobe web store, find the specific family, and there’s a downloadable PDF right there.

For example, http://store1.adobe.com/type/browser/pdfs/1737.pdf

I’ve been working on rationalizing and extending Adobe’s various extended Latin character sets, and will be publishing some “final draft” specs later this month on my blog, for review and comment.

In Adobe’s nomenclature, a western font with “Pro” in the name does have a certain minimum language coverage. See: http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/info/charsets.html

Henrik,
Maybe you are asking for a method to insert every character/glyph into an InDesign document for testing purposes? John Hudson asked me for something like this a while ago.

Henrik specified ’all the characters ... that can be copy/pasted into a indesign document’, which suggests he wants characters (encoded text entities) only, not all glyphs.

Well with a lot of copy/paste i finally got what i wanted - a list in Indesign with all characters - Thanks for all the links and suggestions - I wonder am if I am the first ever to request such a list of characters ?

one source i found helpfull:
