Ricardo Cordoba needs an icon

Joe Pemberton

Ricardo has been a Typophile user since 2005. He’s in the “Prolific Poster” as one of the top contributors in the past 10 days... yet his icon is the generic, blank T. Design Ricardo an icon and post it in this thread for him.

What do you say Ricardo? If someone posts a good one would you use it?

Same goes for Robert Koritnik, aka litera. He’s listed as a top contributor, but he’s only been a member for almost 4 weeks.

Best designs win bragging rights for the week.

REQUIREMENTS:
60 x 60 pixels
JPG or GIF

A natural that came to my mind was something based on the RC Cola logo. I found a small sample of what I am referring to.

What about the questiondown - as most of his frequent recent posts have been on that subject.

or if you add an exclamation point it almost makes an R. I know that’s not proper punctuation tho.

Here is my modest version. Enjoy it in good health Ricardo!

Ricardo (Montalban pimping a Chrysler) Cordoba

Eben, flip the order, then graft an “R” leg on the first one.

hhp

You mean like this?

Yes, but with a dot (and maybe a partial stem) at the bottom-left of the “R”.
You might have to make the glyphs wider. But hey, don’t kill yourself.

And what about Robert K?

hhp

Yes, but

I think you had better have a crack at it. It sounds interesting.

And what about Robert K?

?

You won’t believe but even I have one for Ricardo. Last name is normally more important and is therefore emphasized. Just the way it should be in any font anyway. :)

ROTFLMAO!

Too F’ing Funny You Guys!!! Thanks for giving me a lot of laughs this morning... :-D

Joe, while we’re on the subject of how long I’ve been here on Typophile and have your attention, I’ve actually been here for 3 years and 50 weeks, according to my earlier profile: ric... Is there any way to reunite the two under my current user name? I know a lot of other Typophilers had this problem... Thanks in advance. :-)

Fontplayer and Pearlstreet get my top votes. So does Nick Shinn for sheer humour (that’s right, I spelled it the British way). And Eben’s second one, with the blue background and input from Patty and Hrant — I like that one, too. Typographic Collaboration indeed! :-)

Fontplayer, I think I still have a heavily doodled high school notebook cover onto which I had stuck the RC Cola initials...

Last but not least is Litera... I have thought of using those very two symbols as well, although not exactly like that — now I should make you one! (I’ve also thought of using the R and C from the New York City subway system)... I am going to try and post some recent sketches for my avatar later in the day, folks... Just so you know that I have been working on an avatar! ;-D

But hey, don’t kill yourself.

Hrant is right, Eben — I should be the one working on my icon! :-)

Thanks again everybody!

Rock on. Oh, and Ricardo, I can’t edit that info for you. Unfortunately merging your 2 accounts is tricky, requiring database wrangling, and not a simple flip of a switch.

> Fontplayer and Pearlstreet get my top votes.

The blind pig sniffs out an acorn.
: )

...merging your 2 accounts is tricky, requiring database wrangling, and not a simple flip of a switch.

Er, Joe, does that mean I should ask someone else at Punchcut to take care of that? Please let me know. I realize it’s not easy, but I will be grateful. :-)

...And as you can all see, I ended up choosing a non-typographic icon... an image from a favorite film by a favorite director. Kudos to everybody for your great humor, your ideas, and your work! Now we should make some icons for Litera! :-)

> an image from a favorite film by a favorite director.

Is that your way of starting a new contest, or can you fill in the details?
; )

Oh, click on the linked text and you’ll see which movie I’m talkin’ about. :-)

And here’s my blackletter proposal for RK, a.k.a. Litera...
I took “litera” to be related to literature, letters, and the like, but do let me know if that’s wrong. :-)

> Oh, click on the linked text and you’ll see which movie I’m talkin’ about. :-)

I’ve never heard of the director or his films. I guess I need to get out more.

Well, he’s very much indie... Actually he has a new film out, Fay Grim, which is kind of a sequel to an earlier flick, Henry Fool.

But if you want to experience his early and best films, check out The Unbelievable Truth, Trust, or Simple Men.

Factoid: the actress in the pic, Adrienne Shelley was murdered recently by a construction worker. She directed the current film, Waitress. Haven’t seen it.

I blow hot and cold on Hal Hartley, some gems, some turkeys. Great soundtracks tho.

Definitely some turkeys in his oeuvre, Patty. As for his soundtracks, did you know that the composer Ned Rifle is really HH?

As far as I’ve heared word “litera” in Latin means “letter”. That’s why I’ve been using this word for about decade now...

I decided for a more personalized avatar. As easy as: ME. I know that’s not really creative, but I like this photo I took on a bridge over M3 toward London.

As far as I’ve heared word “litera” in Latin means “letter”.

Ah, it’s Latin. Thanks for the explanation, sir.

I know that’s not really creative

It’s your icon, it can be whatever you want, as long as it doesn’t give people motion sickness. ;-D

Now take your shades off, so we can see your face! ;-)

Take off your shades? I beg you in the name of all eye-covering, avatar-wielding typophiles: do not set this precedent.

Heh-heh, I was forgetting about Randy’s one-of-a-kind eyeglasses. :-)

I probably reveal more about myself by leaving them on than taking them off :-)

Hrant, you meant this? I love such games :)

Nice work, Aleksander! I like that the first one almost looks like an R standing on an umlaut. :-)

Aleksander, your first one: that’s actually not what I meant, but I like it! Except I would join the tops, to make it more of an “R”. Your second batch of three: I actually thought of the first one, and I think it looks decent, but I like the second one much more.
