I’m looking for a font like Emigre’s Missionary:

Ideally, a little more readable. Light with flourishes. Any suggestions?
thanks!

There is really nothing like Missionary, but it’s true that it demands to be used very large. You might like some of the ornamented caps like Gill Floriated, Scala Jewel, or Wiescher’s Bodoni Classic. And for unabashed embellishment, there are few more delightfully frilly than Treasury.

Simpler flourishes, again not Missionary-like, which I don’t think has a simpler more legible competitor or indeed any. Some of the other Weischer fonts may fit the bill.

The only actual fonts that come close to Missionary are by Lee Schulz:

He used to have a site, but it seems to have been taken over by some leech.
One of the few places you can see those fonts in action is in
“Alphabook: Typeface Design & Application” by R Walton (1999).
BTW, Simone, pardon the intrusion, but since you’re in LA:

In case you or somebody you know might be
interested, the class will run again in the Fall.
