You’d have better luck getting an id with the sleuths in the ID section.

I think this is Monotype Grotesque Extra Condensed. As it was stitched/embroidered this might explain the little differences.

’Bureau Grotesque’ may get you close, as well..
( Or did I just make a fool of myself and ’Monotype Grotesque’ = ’Bureau Grotesque’.? :)

Well, not exactly — FBi’s Grotesque is based on similar models, but looks decidedly American, while Monotype’s is very British.

Yea, I thought so, but I couldnt quite get the FontShop site to work.. ( And, I cant stand getting redirected to the Austrian sub site.. I also may admit that I prefer the FontBureau one of those two.. )

Well, I’ve always had a soft spot for the regular width Light and Normal weight of the Monotype version — deliciously quirky with that weird balance and nice vintage stroke modulation. Though I agree the FBi version is very beautiful as well.
