Bickham Script, slightly backslanted, should do the job.

Hmm looks like if it is Bickham Script then they did a lot of tweaking. They would have also had to squish it horizontally and lessen the contrast between the thick and thin. It's possible I guess.

Seems really very close out of the box:

Yes, and slightly backslanted ;)

Appreciate it guys, I really do, but it's not quite there. Here is a comparison. The nuances and intricacies of the original, that I liked, are not there in Bickham it would appear. Namely the lower contrast and more condensed letterforms.

Here's the original at the top and the bottom is Bickham Script at 70pt. It's squished horizontally to 88% and sheared/titled back -18°.

It is definitely based on Bickham Script. You just need to condense the lower case a bit more, increase the x-height plus a general stroke to lower the contrast between thick and thin.

Exactly what Nick perfectly explained. You'd have to consider /J.C from one side (which look to match almost perfectly) and /rew from the other (which, as you describe, do not not fit quite well).
I'm thinking also it could not have been a simple 2D distortion, more a 3D perspective (front point is top left of /J and back point is bottom right of /w, if you know what I mean). That could explain somehow the mismatch.

Thanks Nick. I also noticed that I had to squish the lowercase more then the rest. Some more thoughts on it being Bickham Script.

The peak of the 'w' and it's left side connector would have to be custom. As well as the curl on the top of the 'r'.

Should we consider this a heavily modified version of Bickham? It may have been traced over and tweaked.

Definitely (and, since beginning, obviously to me) "based on" Bickham Script (those /J and /C can't lie).
Curiosity now, why are you so insistent to find the exact matching font for what should logically be a logotype? J.Crew can easily afford any designer to create a unique woodmark (which sounds obvious for this industry) that could have been based on Bickham Script.
Now 2 more points for Bickham Script (easier with a bigger sample here:
- "heart shaped" period is matching: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/adobe/bickham-script-mm/regular/glyphs.html...
- this /w has the right "peak of the 'w' and its left side connector"

It's hard enough for me to find script fonts I enjoy that looks contemporary and this was one that stood out to me. The version of Bickham I've seen wasn't quite "there".

Thanks for pointing out the alternative glyphs. I still notice differences but no worries, we all look at things differently. For the sake of closure let's mark this as a modified version of Bickham Script.

Thanks everyone.
