For those of us who aren't offended by ••••, ••••, or any of those "naughty" words, couldn't there be an option to turn censoring off? I don't find any mention of it in the preferences. Personally I think those big red bullets are rather annoying, anyone else agree?

unknown

[No, on second thought my comment wasn't that funny, so I'm censoring myself.]

unknown

You could use creative spelling like the porn spammers.

Maybe the scripts could be tweaked so they come out as &$@#! instead, like in the comics. That would be ••••••• great. :-)

unknown

I'm with Mark. Great ••••••• idea. Your comic research is paying off.

Really.

unknown

[No, on second thought my comment wasn't that funny, so I'm censoring myself.]

Yeah, that is funnier. :-)

unknown

is there a list of 'naughty' words that it censors? England has different words than America.

unknown

I didn't see it on pseudodictionary.com either, but I did like this one:

quote:

fauxlympics - Any Olympic event that makes you wonder if it's a sport or not.

e.g., Curling is a sport? Oh, come on. What is this, the Fauxlympics?

unknown

Joe, I'd say "fauxcabulary" is yours.

Vincent, you might in fact notice for example that "arse" goes through just fine.

Ly, curling is indeed the pits.

oh good so I don't want to sound like a twat, or make a mistake and yell bollocks! And I'll look up my words in the dictionary in my fanny pack.

but if it my fault 'tough titties'

Did someobody say ••••? Cause I can ••••••• curse like a ••••••• sailor. Joe and Jared haeve that ••••••• statement in ••••••• video if you don't believe me.

Buy V1agra!

One wonders if higher-level terms (swear words so offensive that they aren't even commonplace) have also been censored. Otherwise someone needs a damned good felching.

unknown

Oh goodness. So you can't •••• but you can felch. Wow.

unknown

> higher-level terms

Or really low level ones that the censors are too geeky to have ever heard. I once started putting together a Beavis & Butthead Lexicon - I'll try to dig it up... you buttwipe.

Fuckyeah.

BTW, is there a way to fix this stealth editing business? Like the email version of Jared's post doesn't have the last sentence... No harm done in this case, of course, but it does mean that the public record can include things that people don't realize they haven't seen.

At a minumum, when an edit/delete is made a simple alert notice should be mailed out.

hhp

unknown

This is my favorite test of message censorship, sorry if it will not go trough. If it appears, anyone can check if auto-censor here knows this trick :-)

are you too oung to ove lorin?

> any edits to a post would be duly noted for all to see, although not emailed out.

But the point is that if it's not mailed out, anybody on email delivery (and isn't that most people?) won't see the edit unless he goes to the thread. And he would only really do that if he's going to post something, and even then is unlikely to notice it.

But making the edited text look different would be a luxury.

--

Unless people can at least be made aware of an edit via email, I think editing should be disabled. But leave Deletion available, so the person can just replace the post wholesale, and everybody would see it.

I agree with Stephen here. Also, although I like the convenience of
email responses and updates, IMO the "community effect" only happens
if you keep connected to the site; there's always something else going on
that you might miss if you only follow through email.

unknown

Plus there's another way emailed posts suck: you can't see "embedded" links.

That and the censored stuff doesn't even come up as bullets or anything.

Okay this seems to be best place/time to admit this: In order
to keep the task of kerning from putting me to sleep, I have
interspersed the regular ol' kern words that I use to test with
dirty words and phrases. It helps keeps it interesting for me
in a juvenile kinda way.

unknown

I have to agree with Yves on the editing point. I dont think I've ever posted to this site or my own without hastily editing my posts within minutes.
