28 Hours into

Dixon Yamada

28 hours into fonts this weekend...
I think I'm overdosing...
.... . . . . .

Is there a cure?

I suppose I should add that only one of these fonts existed 72 hours ago.

If you’re looking for a cure, you’ve come to the wrong place! ;-)

Interesting experiments, by the way.

I would love any opinions or help on these. If you think they are s**t, just please tell me why. I won't argue.

The first one might have some Art Nouveau potential,
but it's quite a distance from being of any real value.

The second one isn't highly original, but it does have
a marketable character. Is it based on anything?

The third one looks like you took a generic sans and
tried to make it more like Yellow. I think Yellow is
a great source of inspiration, but it would be much
better to start from scratch.

You should pick one and put it on the Critique board.

This is not AA, this is like drinking frat party.

hrant, the second isnt really based on anything except perhaps the strange thread of design that started out as German Sans and ended up becoming American Urban.

The original is available here, free for anyone and all purposes except for being sold as a font:

The version in the pic above is a slight refinement of the font. As well as better letter spacing and few small tweaks, I suppose the biggest factor in decided to refine it was the lower case g. I go back and fourth over whether I like the top right hand "corner" of that glyph more square, as it is in version 1.0, or more rounded as I am working on in version 2.0.

That left "g" is interesting. It makes me imagine that
implement bulges where there would be full-fledged
elements might possibly be fruitful.

Version 1. More interesting and balanced.

That was the idea, hrant. but I think the rest of the glyphs are so rounded and smooth, the bulged g sticks out too much. Seeing them side by side though, I think I may have made the upper counter of the 2nd version g a bit too large.

I prefer the 1.0. It's how I like my eggs.

I tried using diagonal cuts in a sans like that before. Not sure if I still have it around.... I can't find it.

Anyway, Argon is somewhat related:

Hmmm, everybody likes version 1 better. Maybe I'm ruining it. :D

Yes, it has tension.
