1970s fonts

James Michaels

Any suggestions for feminine-looking fonts with a 70s look? Like something they would have used in an invitation to a sorority dance party in 1975. Thanks.

One of the lighter cuts of Bookmania might be fitting.

Park Avenue!

I don't know, I wasn't born till 82...

Thanks for the suggestions!

Peignot:

Whenever someone mentions Souvenir, I think of ETI (Electronics Today International).

In a moment of self-doubt I started to question my suggestion of Park Avenue, since it didn't originate during the period. However a reassuring Google image search for "invitation 1975" (without quotes) turned up 3 instances of Park Avenue (or something like it) just on the first page! Phew.

Not that sorority sisters wouldn't use something more contemporary...

Gillian, I think that's too sophisticated for the 70s.
It's more like something your parents would have used. :-)

Motter Femina was made in 1981, but the 70s didn't really end on time. If you want a really heavy-handed 70s stereotype, it fits.

Thanks again, many good suggestions. But just to clarify, when I said "invitation to sorority dance party" I was thinking of a headline font that's youthful and energetic.

Hello,

I have a site with retro fonts sorted into time periods. You might find something suitable in the 1970s section. http://tackorama.net/Fonts/70s/1.htm

An interesting and no doubt useful site, but a massive source of misinformation.
Most fonts appear to be renamed revivals that don’t credit the original designer.
And many were revivals already during the 1970s, e.g. those in the Art Deco style.
Please, take some time to do the thing right, and take it to the next level.
