Credible Resources for Student Typography Project

jeffpunz25

Hi everyone,

I'm a second-year graphic design student that loves and appreciates Typography and it's history, as well as its future!

I'm required to research 3 sans-serif classifications / one typeface for each classification. (ie: transitional sans, geometric sans, and humanist sans)

I've chosen:
-Futura
-Gill Sans
-Helvetica

*I know that some of these classifications can be argued, but the main reason I'm posting here is to find a site/source (aside from Wikipedia) to use for my project.

Any recommendations?

Helvetica - The Movie

I just got the Helvetica film, and a great read on Linotype just now, thanks!

Books are useful too!
Christopher Burke on Renner can't be beat.
There might be leads to follow on these sites:

Lawson's "Anatomy of a Typeface" would be a good choice for reading, as well as Tracy's "Letters of Credit."

We released a book about the history of the Futura typeface. Sadly, it's only in french now. It's 192 pages and about 400 images.
