Create modeled type effects, how?

ReneRutten

Hi,

modeled type is very popular in identity design these day. I'm really curious how these effect are made. Can it be done in Illustrator. Can't find any tutorials on the internet.

A few examples:

Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks!

You can place the text on a 3d object, isn't that what the extended version of photoshop is all about?

Edit: There's also a couple of simple warp features in Illustrator.

Thanks for your reaction. I was hoping for a vector based solution. The simple warp features won't give the results.

I guess it's done with Envelope Distort. The feature seems a little random to me.
Or is it just practise, practise, practise?
