(x) Hollywood Entertainment Museum ad - Union {Stephen}

chiranit

I love this serif font. Can anybody tell what typeface it is? It was used in an ad for Hollywood Entertainment Museum. Thanks!niceserif

Quaestor is pretty close, regarding the sharp serifs and all... but those rounded serifs look like they may be a modification... it's probably just something i don't recognize though.

This reminds me of the Hoefler face Mercury but I don't have sample handy.

I tried google it. Lots of stuff came up, but no picture...
Any idea who might sell 'Mercury'?

Thanks!

Mercury is only available by special arrangement from the Hoefler Type Foundry. The best place to see it is in Esquire magazine. They use it as their text face.

"Mercury is only available by special arrangement".
Is it exclusive? Does it mean that it's not available to the public?

I'll check out Esquire magazine.

Thanks all!

Unfortunately, I don't think this is Mercury, but it does have similar wedge-shaped serifs.

See here for a sample of Mercury. It was originally designed as a newspaper font and is used IIRC by a few newspapers (among them the New Times chain) as well as Esquire. According to the staff at H&FJ, it's not quite retail yet, but they told me you can buy it though "special arrangement." Everytime, I've tried to obtain it though, my calls are never returned from the lady who does their licensing. You may have better luck. :-(

I looked at Esquire and that's not it.

It does look very familiar...although the "S" is so unique. I scan for the "S" when I'm searching.

The search continues...

You guys are the best! Thanks for helping me search.

That's Unger's work, if I'm not mistaken. Lemmecheck ...

It appears I am mistaken, can't find it anywhere. :-(

I felt a little sense of Vendôme when I first saw it. But that isn't it either. Then I started thinking more along the lines of that gôut hollandaise ... grr ... not TEFF, not DTL, not OURTYPE ... looks so familiar.

I'm with Yves. It really looks like Unger. Maybe something undocumented?

Hollander, Tiffany? That came to my mind too. Another Unger - and
an under-appreciated one too.

It's Gareth Hague's Union.

Bingo, just in time for Christmas. Say Stewf, weren't you supposed
to be eating Christmas pudding at half twelve on Christmas Eve? :-)

We did have that tasty traditional Swedish dish 2 hours earlier.
The one who gets the almond in their bowl will be the next to be
married. Being the only single kid among my parents' five
children, it was obvious who got the almond this year. I guess I
better start dating now.
