(x) casual Franklin Gothic - custom (similar to Ed Gothic, Besonio) {Stephen, Yves}

James Gareth

This looks like a modified Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed. Nonetheless, it seems embarassingly familiar. Any ideas?

Looks dangerously like Left Hook, but there are still little inconsistencies... shoot..

Maybe the "illegal" Tintin-font (aka Kuifje-font) done by a Barcelona-foundry and pulled under threat of judiciary action? (Oh, those widows of creative people...).

Yes.

Republic of Type sounds confussing to me, because it's very similar to Andreu Balius Typerepublic.

Andreu lives also in Catalu

Does anyone have a sample of this "illegal" font. It'd be interesting to see regardless of whether or not it matches my sample.

I have emailed Laura Messeger of type-O-tones. Maybe she can help us.

Thanks Laura for posting that sample. Thank you also to Tiffany for that comparison. Such a nice community. :-) Not being able to find out what it is bugging me though.

Besonio is VERY close. Thanks Yves.

I had to lift the images from the page to compare them side by side. Even though Besonio is very close, the S and R are not exactly the same shapes. I think Ed Gothic is still the answer, and here's how to make them closer (I think):

If a black outline stroke is added it would make the letters thinner looking against a black background, and then change the proportions by either squeezing, or vertically stretching the letters.

If I had this font I would demonstrate, but perhaps Tiffany could try it (please)? Use the original R with Alt S and C.

Well, I finally heard back from the source of the sample and they said that its a custom font done by a local artist. I'll try to find out more but that's it, I guess. Everytime I'm convinced something's familiar, it seems its the exact opposite. Thanks for all your help guys and gals!

Not sure, but House's new Ed Gothic is similar.

Stephen it is close, but even with the alternate S and C it isn't a match.

I still bow to you though. ;^)

Hm, interesting. I wasn't aware of this.

I think I might still have a Type-

Hello, I'm Laura Meseguer from Type-

Here are samples of Ed Gothic. The bottom of the two is using the alts for the typeface.

CSA Images' Besonio comes pretty close.
