Funny idea but wouldn't Adobe simply disqualify this logo if they found out it was only voted for by saboteurs?

These companies aren't nearly as smart as they try to make themselves seem. All the supporters would have to do is vote in such a way that it doesn't look planned.

You have to log in to Facebook for the page to open properly

That, for me, says it all. I will start my sabotage not joining FB.

While most design competitions are bad, some of them are not. Especially when it comes to a high valued company. Even though it looks lame that they do this kind of stuff I would be proud to take part in this competition and win. Even if I received no compensation whatsoever.

Being a designer of a logo that Adobe uses would compensate my effort enormously.

(and looking at current results I think that sabotage is failing).

I would be proud to take part in this competition and win.

Shame would be more appropriate.
This post has already damaged your reputation.

I agree with Nick. If professionals can't even respect their craft, how can we expect other people to? If professionals enter these contests, it's only a matter of time before none of us can make a living.

"Being a designer of a logo that Adobe uses would compensate my effort enormously."

What?

aluminum, this is exactly the attitude that greedy corporations dream of; skilled people thrilled to work for free. I call it the "PIE" compensation package: "Paid In Exposure."

Sadly, I can't cover my rent with PIE, nor can I buy Adobe CS5 with PIE.

What?

Back in Texas, we called 'em braggin' rights; unfortunately, feeding one's ego doesn't always feed one's family, too...

I'm in. :)

> aluminum, this is exactly the attitude that greedy corporations dream of

So you are saying that Adobe is running this logo contest because it is greedy? As in they cringe at a thought of paying few thousand to have a logo designed?

Ri-i-ight.

Or we could all vote for this one, and chuckle at the all-too-obvious visual pun: the design community collectively servicing Adobe...

Although the winner may benefit in some way, contests like this are harmful to the profession of design. Regardless of Adobe's motives.

That's not what I said, apankrat. I finished my sentence for a reason.

Not that I think anyone would, but please don't mock the designer, it's not the point...

When throwing around notions of what is shameful it's worth bearing in mind that this method of protest hurts no-one but the unwitting individual whose logo design you have deemed to be a joke. It's bullying and is very unlikely to cause Adobe any sleepless nights.

There are better ways of educating people about spec work than resorting to mockery, implied or direct.

I hope Adobe gets zero replies to their spec work offering.

Completely ignored.

They really blew it on this one. There are tons of really great designers doing some truly awesome stuff these days. And Adobe could have also taken a cue from hip happenin' companies like Absolut and BMW (et al) who have a natural corporate want to celebrate the association between a commissioned designer / artist and their product.

Wake up Warnock.

5star,

Sadly, Adobe's logo design contest has received hundreds of submissions. Many pros have posted comments protesting the contest and made great arguments about the long-term damage of spec work. But, painfully few of the designers who submitted work get it - they reply by saying how excited they'd be to win.

Worse, Adobe's site administrator has been replying to comments referencing no-spec.com by insisting it's "not spec work" because the payment is exposure.

Ugh.

What was the original post, by whom, and why was it deleted?

And who/where is/was "Alaskan"?

hhp

Who says "hi"; and why in a largely obsolete (cuz' of the deleted OP) and two-year-old thread?
A spammer testing the waters?

Keepin' it real.
