How to get this effect in Illustrator or Corel?

Below is the image of text. If you can see it is not a solid color. I want to know how can I get this effet in Illustrator or CorelDraw to it print like this?

The effects is a gradient printed at a very coarse screen ruling, somewhere in the vicinity of 30 or so LPI. One way to mimic this effect would be to create a vector gradient by following the instructions here...

Then insert the gradient into type converted into a clipping path.
