Does microsoft word recognise kerning pairs?

A font that I am working on has incorrect kerning when I take it into Microsoft word. I am wondering if this is a problem with Microsoft work or with the font itself. Anyone have any info on this?

It's stupid that it's not activated by default:

Format > Font > Character Spacing > tick Kerning for fonts, and size

I am finding that in MS Word, MS Works, and OpenOffice, master pairs will kern but classes will not.
