Is it possible to preview the effect of this action before commiting to it?
Seems like it would be a useful thing to have within Fontlab...

Undo and/or Revert work just as well as Preview...
If you really need to work that way you’ll have to copy/paste from Illustrator. Hopefully LivePen will make it info Fontlab 6!
Just inspired by the way that some macros work eg. KLTF Transformer
That has realtime preview and I was wondering if there was anything out there.
