movies

Too small, and in perspective … hmmm, doesn’t look too good.
We’ll try our best Adam.

Independence Day | It’s not Industria with flipped U for N and V for A,
but more likely one of its many clones or a customization

Rocky Horror can be found here or here or here

Nah Patricia, it worked the other way around: House Industries
made the classic movie logo into a series of display fonts, and
added text versions

Gotcha. Same with all those Rocky Horror knock off fonts.

Big Trouble in LIttle China and Moulin Rouge probably custom lettered.

Can someone take over from me please? It’s 01:45 AM and
I’m really tired. I’ll check for any loose threads tomorrow. :-)

It’s typophile Ping Pong. Match Point Yves.

BTW, the Fight Club logo is probably custom designed — I tried to recreate
it for a spoof and I couldn’t make it work.

Doing my best! These are REALLY small.

Patricia, if you want larger versions go to the Amazon DVD store
and do a search — works like a charm. :-) Couldn’t find the proper
cover/poster for The Fifth Element tho.

Sleepytime. Have fun!

Master and Commander | Compacta Bold

The Fight Club logo was designed by Brigid Cabry when she was working with the late P. Scott Makela. Makela did the titles for the film. It is incidently based on a custom (and publically unavailable) font that Ms. Cabry created.

The only one I can find for Fight Club is a font called Fight This by Apostrophic Labs; but I’ve found it doesn’t look too great when you mock it up for the logo. I think Fight This was taken more from the title scenes, rather than the actual movie logo.

Which ones are still up in the air?

I thought Planet of the Apes looked like Peignot Bold. House didn’t make that font set until many years after the movie was released.

fyi, this was House’s Simian press release

ESCAPE FROM THE DESIGN DOLDRUMS WITH THE NEW HOUSE INDUSTRIES’ SIMIAN FONT FAMILY

House Industries provides the missing link to your design success with the new Simian typeface collection. This

According to one of the House brochures, their Planet of the Apes fonts took off from the logotype and alphabet designed for the original movie by Ed Benguiat.

That is doubtless all true about the movie and the font, but is it possible we are not talking about the font that actually appears on the video boxes above? Maybe I can’t see them clearly enough, but they still look a lot like Peignot to me. (It wouldn’t be the first time that packaging used what was handy, rather than what was authentic, especially when the movie came out in the pre-digital font era.)

What’s this guys? Homeclass for typophiles?
Here you have a kid who has a school project and he is smart enough to lay off all the hard work to a bunch of nightowls.
How is Adam ever gonna learn the basics of type-IDing without scrunching?
Wish there had been Internet AND Typophile when I did my graduate project in Art School, ; )

The Rocky Horror Picture Show | hand lettered, but maybe
take a look at House Industries’ Monster Fonts

Something About Mary looks like Futura Extra Bold.

Mash  — Stencil? with added stroke?

Planet of the Apes could be Simian from House Industries but I’m not sure Hollywood is that clever…
