IE9 -

Russell McGorman

well?

This Firefox 4 Beta is great. Oh wait, IE 9? People still use IE? Are they the same people who keep showing up at Sarah Palin rallies or something?

Well, no. Some of Ms. Palin's friends may be among those people who use IE, but more that half of people who use the internet use IE, regardless of their levels of education, position on any political spectrum you choose or their views on shooting Bambi, so, like it or not, you can't dismiss it just because you don't like it.

And Chrome beats Firefox. :o)

Chrome is the best browser I've used so far. It's awesome. Font rendering still needs work, but it's nowhere near as bad as Safari/Firefox on MacOS.

I'll try IE9 when it comes out of beta.

Lots of people use IE at work because their machines are supplied with it, and their IT departments won't allow installation of alternatives... :-)

9th time is the charm?

have you guys seen these? pretty sweet if you ask me.

Will it run on MacOS 9?

Interesting.
For comparison, Safari 5 is available for Windows XP but not for Mac OS X 10.4 (nor Mac OS 9 ;-).

Worldwide, Windows XP PCs outnumber all other Windows-equipped machines by two to one, according to the most recent statistics from Web metrics company Net Applications.
In August, Windows XP powered 66.7% of the globe's Windows systems that went online in the month, while the three-year-old Vista accounted for 15.3% and 2009's Windows 7 for 17.4%.

If Microsoft's new browser is as popular as the company hopes, it may reverse Internet Explorer's (IE) market share slide -- but it might also help to do something that the software giant has been trying unsuccessfully to accomplish for several years -- kill off Windows XP.

Give up XP and buy a new computer for a browser?! Mozilla and Google must be jumping for joy!

That Microsoft is keeping IE9 exclusive to those running Vista SP2 or higher seems like a foolish move that is likely to inspire millions to find an alternative browser, such as Firefox or Chrome. This could further damage IE's current supremacy of the browser market. All versions of Internet Explorer combined currently dominate with 60.4 percent of the Web browser market. Firefox has 22.93 percent, and Chrome has 7.52 percent.

Microsoft has ruled out putting Internet Explorer 9 on Windows XP, leaving millions of PCs open to Mozilla and Google browsers providing hardware-accelerated rich-internet.

In other news... last remaining VCR maker jumps for joy as competitors move to exclusively producing DVD players. ;-)

I don't think VCRs have two thirds of the recording market.
