Modern family font search

VersuS

Hi all,
I'm working on a magazine redesign, looking to incorporate a typeface from the Modern family. Really love Miller and Monotype Modern but I'm hoping to find something that is less commercial and exposed, something a little more unique.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

DSType's Andrade Pro is really nice.

Hi Nick,
I was considering Scotch Modern as well, but the legibility is not great as a text face. If I use Scotch for display purposes what would you suggest as a suitable text face?
Thanks again.

Another one: Ingeborg by Typejockeys.

...the legibility is not great as a text face...

I beg to differ, which is why I revived this style in the first place.
Sure, it bucks conventional wisdom -- for some reason art directors consider 400 (Garamond) and 500 (Bembo) -year old designs more readable than a 150-year old design. Sackbutts over saxophones. Go figure.

What about Computer Modern ;) If you never came near to mathematical journals, then it'll be unique.

"Sackbutts over saxophones."

Very excellent analogy. (although I believe the sackbut is an ancestor of the trombone; well said nonetheless...)

Ahh... for alliteration. It's all coming back to me now, said the blind man...

You might want to take a look at our Consul Text or Consul Caption.

Thanks,
Consul is very nice. Has it been used in a publication before?

It has been used in a couple of recent redesigns. I'm not sure if they are out yet. It has only been available for a few months.

The Scotch Modern style is very handsome, and seems to have returned to vogue. I would also agree with Nick that his Scotch Modern is quite readable, and it's on my shortlist for the right project sometime...I quite like it. (Props, Mr Shinn)
