Sorry. Just occurred to me that Garamond Premiere Pro is the OT font name, so I'd have to replace it with a TT font.

But just so I know, is there a way to convert an OT to TT?

Are you sure you need to convert it? What is the use case where you still need a .ttf version? There were some reasons historically, but they are becoming increasingly obscure.

(Putting EULAs aside) FontForge is able to create these formats:

canderson: It's a server thing. The plug-in that converts our webpages to PDFs only uses TrueType. Also, this has been a problem with FileMaker server printing layouts in the past, though not sure if it's a problem still with FM 11 or not. We've simply had ongoing problems with non-graphic design applications. Apparently, most computer engineers aren't aware of the move to OpenType.

JanekZ: Thanks for the tip. I also found TransType, but FontForge seems to be OpenSource.

* And we've always used PS fonts in the past, so our TT library is pretty much what was installed with OS and software and no more. I haven't been able to find a TT version of any Garamond in our archive fonts.

TransType works well and is drag and drop while Font Forge has a much longer learning curve.

Having the fonts on a web server might be a violation of the EULA, so remember to read it carefully.

Adobe's EULA does allow for modification. So you can convert to TrueType without violation. (Assuming you've licensed it. *wink*)

A small question: what if just changing the suffix from .otf to .ttf?

The thing is, there are two internal types of OTF fonts. One uses Adobe's PostScript curves, the other uses Windows Truetype format. All TTFs are (or should be) Truetype, while an OTF can be either one of them.

It sounds like Margaux' server can only use Truetype format fonts, independent of the actual font filename extension.

Why convert to truetype when you can buy as truetype. Adobe only offers Opentype, but other foundries also offer truetype, like bitstream and URW++. I'd advise you to just look for Garamond in MyFonts, as there are loads of different versions, there should be one that suits your needs.

Tiff, are you sure? I thought Adobe changed its EULA some years ago prohibiting all modifications.

"You may convert and install the font software into another format for use in other environments, subject to the following conditions: A computer on which the converted font software is used or installed will be considered as one of your Permitted Number of Computers. Use of the font software you have converted will be pursuant to all the terms and conditions of this agreement. Such converted font software may be used only for your own customary internal business or personal use and may not be distributed or transferred for any purpose, except in accordance with Section 4.4 of this agreement."
