which type treatment would you describe as a modern / contemporary and yet not trendy or over-styled? Which type treatment (in logos or elsewhere) stands out for you as something very descriptive of the era we are living through?

something that IS very trendy/over-styled is camelcase
I think, as we are all quite visual people here, a specimen of such type treatment (if it is not as easy to describe, as "all caps" :) ) would be terrific.
iPhone, iPad = camelcase.
