Criterion's Seventh Seal

adamschoales

Anyone know what typeface is being used for the cover of this latest Criterion edition of The Seventh Seal? I really like it...

Looks like Trajan to me.

Here's a close up of it... looks slightly different from tragan to me (the R specifically)

Definitely not Trajan. Look at the M and N as well. I will try to see if I can find it once I can see the image again.

Thanks guys, I'll look into those two. Its a really nice face, I wish I could track it down...

This one is not exact either, but I think Cresci is fairly similar.

PF Monumenta Pro looks like it could be it.

I vote for doctored Felix Titling...

I think I found it. This is Pacioli, without the outline structure (lower case in font map). The search term that turned it up was 'inscribed'.

I was a bit lazy...
"Die Schone Schrift" by Frantisek Muzika, II, page 34: Felice Feliciano, year 1463, page 38-39: Luca Pacioli, year 1509.
congratulations:)

I did not have it in my Serif Guide, but now I do (along with 4 other new fonts for the Guide found during this search).

Very nicely done, Mike. Persistence. This one was driving you crazy too, eh?

Thanks. Yes, you know it. These feel good when you can get a clear answer. Especially with Serifs these days, if I don't know it and I don't have it cataloged, then I want to know what it is.

originals (more than 500 years old):
Feliciano

and Pacioli

Thanks Jan for posting those.

Wow, I am really glad that I read this thread.

I have both learned something new, and remembered that I don't have a copy of the Criterion Collection version of The Seventh Seal.
