Book Design Query

legioneer01

I am in the process of designing a book that features some polaroid photograpy. I'm thinking of doing the title of the book as well as the major headlines/subheads in a slab serif while having the body copy and captions in a sans serif typeface.

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a really good sans serif typeface to go with a slab serif?

Well, it depends on the slab, obviously.

You know, I thought about that last night after posting this question. I hadn't settled on one, but I'm aiming for something like these:

Archer: http://www.typography.com/fonts/font_styles.php?productLineID=100033

Alexandria: http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/AlexandriaFLF

ITC Lubalin Graph: http://www.fontshop.com/search/?q=itc+lubalin+graph

I particularly like Archer.

I particularly like Archer.

Yes, apparently it's very popular. :-)

You could try my Suomi Slab Serif. It has proportions of American Typewriter, but all ITC softness grinded out.

@Ricardo...thanks for posting that article. I had never heard of Archer until just recently.

@Tomi...I like yours a lot. I may have to pick that up.

Do either of you have any suggestions for a good sans serif to go with Archer or Suomi Slab?

I don't think I want to use the Slab Serif for my body copy.

OK Alex, we get it.
However, no face is suitable for every "complementary" request at Typophile.
In this case, don't you think an italic would be required?

Abusing a forum by constant self-promotion and bad advice is not the way to build your brand.
Post your new typeface in the Release forum, take out an ad.

What Nick said. I consider your comments as spam and will, in cases where the thread had been silent for more than 1 month, delete them as inappropriate. I have temporarily blocked your account so that I can clean up this mess. After that, you can follow Nick’s advice and start 1 (one) thread in the Release section, and then give it a rest.
Thank you,
Florian

Alright, your account is set to ‘active’ again. I deleted those comments that bumped old threads and hence probably wouldn’t have helped the original posters, and also those where your comment clearly was off-topic (‘looking for a serif …’). Self-promotion per se is not prohibited on Typophile. It depends on context and dosage. Posting a load of (virtually) identical comments will surely be perceived as spamming.

You are a very forgiving person, Florian. ;)
