Typography chat rooms?

Troy

Hi all,

Just wondering if there any typography chat rooms floating around the net that type people and graphic designers would use?

Any help would be great

.

Most of the 'typography chat rooms' I've seem are just platforms for horrible people to share/steal fonts.

What's wrong with Typophile's General Discussions forum?

Maybe this does not quite fit the bill, but there is the irc channel ##fonts on irc.freenode.net, dedicated to the discussion of FLOSS fonts, of which there are more than a few quality examples today.

>dedicated to the discussion of FLOSS fonts

...and I thought typophile discussions were pretty narrow :-)

If you look back a few years on Typophile, you can find some heated discussions on threads that may be more of the chat room flavor you savor.

...complete with stalkers, undercover police, tea-partiers and trolls? :-)

Something like TTR -- TrueType Romance?
True Type designer is looking for Open Type designer

Slanted Roman seeks Dutch Slab :-)

A chat section would be nice to have here. I just came over this video:

I love the Typophile General Discussion Forum but I wish I could find a place where the Typophile-esque designers were discussing the "Business" of design.
For the most part, the other chat rooms seem to be full of people who's opinions I'm less than interested in...does that make me some sort of snob? Perhaps...
I can live with that.

You can always start a Business related thread?

No need to make a profile. All are welcome. I try to make an effort to spend time there every Friday for "Friday Night Type." I look forward to seeing you there.

If there is anyone handy, I'm doing a little bug checking on the readthetype chat room. If you could stop buy and help me run a few tests it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

coffee & sugar ? :)

@ Dezcom...I did post a thread about the biz but no one bit.
@ Christopher...See you there!

It appears as though the sound notification is inconsistent. It sometimes does not beep when someone enters the room or talks, letting you know that someone is there if you are in another window.

what is the Business of design?

By the "business of design" I meant the day-to-day running of your studio/business (i.e. dealing with bookkeepers, overdue accounts, interns, crazy clients…).

Yes, I have a couple of those and will check out the rest. Was just looking for a place to start a dialogue...doesn't seem to be here...
