Plastica is listed at Berthold as a »Hausschnitt«, 1929/1936.

Umbra as well, though the hot-metal version looks quite different.

I can't find Plastica in any stuff I have about Post.

Nowadays the font is available as Gill Sans Light Shadowed.

While Gill Sans Light Shadowed is indeed very similar, it’s not identical – see especially J, R, Z.
Maybe Pentagram has made this typeface up? To me, it looks like they modified Umbra (Futura Shadowed) and/or Gill, made it look like a kind of Neuzeit Grotesk Shadowed and gave it the name of the stylistically related – and forgotten – Berthold face that Indra has shown. While it is not out of the question that Herbert Post has designed such a typeface, it would surprise me – in consideration of his work as far as I know it.

Ok, there are slight differences, but it's much closer than the Umbra sample that kupfers posted. BTW, I see no R in Viktor's photo.

PS: Just looked up my copy of Umbra BT which looks more like Viktor's sample than what kupfers posted. Only J and M are different (smaller details in other letters aside).
Andreas

The »Hamburge« I posted is the metal version of Berthold’s Umbra from 1932 (see here).
I haven't found anything, not one picture of Plastica – no idea how it looks like.
And actually I also doubt that Post designed Plastica or Umbra. Those two are not attribute to a special designer in Berthold’s records.

((Hei Henning, can you have a look in your Berthold Hauptproben?))

Ei, kugge mo do:

A hot-metal »Plastika« from 1929 (though Designer still not stated)

I’ve still found this at the Bleistatzschriften-DVD on a DIN 16507 card. No designer mentioned, too. Sometimes it is PLASTICA and sometimes PLASTIKA. Yes Florian, seems that Pentagram digitized it by it’s own.

Very interesting! Thanks for posting your findings.
Alright, thus not made up.

my pleasure!
