(x) Weekend Australian Magazine masthead - Times Classic {Reed R}

Hi All

Can any of you identify the serif face used by The Weekend Australian Magazine?

Thanks for looking.

Pete

Most of the times, magazine nameplates are custom made. Are you looking for an exact match or just something similar?

Looks suspiciously close to Georgia Bold squooshed :-)

This font seems to be used throughout the magazine as well as on the masthead. I'd like to find something really close - I've looked at a lot of fonts trying to find out what it is. The lowercase 't' seems more unusual in other serif faces that I've looked at.

I thought it might be a fairly new typeface - but then I'm not good at spotting anything but the glaringly obvious with fonts - anyway that's why I put it up on this forum. I felt someone here would recognise it.

Here's a shot of a cover:

I would beg to differ: top of t, serifs and contrast are different, for example.

Andreas

Yes there are similarities with Georgia but these serifs are finer and the terminals on the top of the 't' and 'u' for example are curved, but are not curved on Georgia.

Thanks for looking!

You replied while I was typing exactly that!

I didn't say it was Georgia - as R. said these titles are usually custom. Talking of differences to Georgia, the e should be mentioned first.

> Some Bodonis with a more or less similar t
The W is definitively no Bodoni and the font no didone.

If you mean the subtitle in the photo that's another font, even at that resolution.
Andreas

I believe it's Times Classic: Al Trivino, the News Corp. consultant on the most recent redesign, discusses its merits at around 3:35 in this video.

Found an example of Times Classic: Check out the left front page at http://www.newsdesigner.com/blog/images/nov06/times1.php . It's difficult to confirm, but it looks right to me.

Good find! Details might have been slightly adjusted for the nameplate, but it sure looks like the right face.

Andreas

Thank you. You've nailed it!.

I realise the sub is in Constantia but Times Classic—since you've given me a name for it—is used for article heads throughout the mag as well.

Ricardo, thanks for your help too.

My thanks to you!

I've just watched the video you linked for me—looks like I'll be spending some time there too!

The link to the redesign image clearly shows Times Classic at work.

Thanks!

Pete

Glad to help, Pete.
