(x) Rounding / Bluring Typeface edges

MRE

Hey,

I don't know how to explain it very well but I found an example..
Maybe it is a function in Illustrator... Allowing you to give a very subtle rounded edge to fonts.

The example uses Helvetica, but we can notice a soft / rounded edge ... especially on the "15"

Any info is welcome! :)

Thanks!

Maybe Alte Haas Grotesk

Alte Haas Grotesk

oh cool...!

but I've seen many well known faces altered this way, for titling pruposes for example...
i doubt they use quick made free faces... there must be a way to transform the actual typeface

??

In Illustrator you can use the scripts Round Any Corner, but first you have to convert the text into outlines.

Or use plugins.

Is there a way to do this direclty in Fontlab?

One way would be to

  1. Select a radius for your rounded corners--say, 12 units);
  2. In the EFFECTS menu, select BOLD, uncheck "Keep glyph dimensions," then select -12 for H weight and V weight;
  3. In the same menu, check "Make round corners" and change the weight to +12.

You can fiddle with the values to get the effects you're looking for...

Wasn't there a Python script that does this?

hhp

That "round any corner" script works quite well... Very simple.

Thanks
