'Tr': Similar to Aldus

John Lyttle

This image comes from the WTF Forum. It's something I have been trying to ID … without any success. It appears similar to Aldus, but it's not; the r is especially hard to match. Any ideas?

Not even close to Aldus :-)

Might want to look at Belwe. Not a match but similar, especially the r.

Michael

Thanks, Michael. You're right, of course: to suggest that it was similar to Aldus was indeed a type error. However, Belwe isn't it either. Its T serifs angle inward and the upturn on the r is sharp, not curved (see the following image for comparison). Identifont's "by similarity" engine didn't suggest any good solutions, by the way.

I was just trying to get you close to the idiosyncratic r. Somebody will get you closer though.

P.s. Nice pun on the typerror tho'

Michael

It looks rather sketchily drawn to me. The serifs look stuck on, and are not the same size on both sides of the T, and are different shapes on each side of the r's foot. I doubt this is a commercial font.

Seems similar in structure to Perpetua Bold to me, but Perpetua doesn't have that ear on the r. And yeah, I'd agree with Bendy that this looks pretty thrown-together.

Yeah, I smell Gill too. Or William Morris.

There are some strange artefacts on that rendering.
It looks slapped together manually - not a font.

Or it's just a really crappy job; check some freefont sites.

It looks to me like someone may have altered a sans face to make a serif out of it, and somewhat clumsily too, as Bendy noted.
