CSM university Archive (Jonas Kortens, Incunabula and Old books - 1743)

Peter Ainsworth

This is a book from the Central Saint Martins Archive. As i say in the title it is a book by Jonas Kortens. Titled Incunabula and Old books and was printed in 1743.

The current archive lecturer didn't know much about this book other then the details i have given here. Despite its poor condition its really beautiful and really worth a look. If anybody can translate any of the content that would be much appreciated or any information at all about the blackletter type would also be helpful.

If not just enjoy these images of a beautiful old book. (more images here http://www.flickr.com/photos/iiwekei/sets/72157622880237506/)

This is a description of a travel to the Holy Land and its neighbors.
And this is a rouhg line by line translation of the tilepage:

Jonas Kortens'
Former bookseller at Altona (= now part of Hamburg, Germany)
Travel
To the former
Holy
But now
For seventeen hundred years
Under the curse lying
Land
Also to Egypt, Mount Lebanon
Syria and Mesopotamia
Written as seen by himself
And
In this second Edition
With two supplements
Augmented
Published by the author
Halle
Printed by Joh. Christian Grunert, 1743

Thanks. If anyone can help on any of the other images (any information) i am still looking for a bit more knowledge about the book. Its quite interesting to draw comparisons with dexter sinister. Re-publishing out of print material just as this Incunabula is.
