fontlab opentype - programming alternates

Hi,

I would like to have different versions for each letter, just like with the opentype font liza:

Only how can i code with opentype that it grabs another 'd' for example if it's the second d in a word or in the total text?

Tthe second letter in a word would be relatively straightforward:

ignore sub @Letters @Letters d'; sub @Letters d' by d.alt;

I'm not sure how one would handle the second case.
