Swiss Modernist Condensed Typefaces

smallprint

Hi not sure if its ok to post two at same time. Any ideas on either would be great. Looking for an alternative to compacta or helvetica compressed.

1) BasimPastillen.png

First reads "Basim Pastillen" from a book called "Sans Serif: The Ultimate Sourcebook of Classic and Contemporary Sans Serif Typography"

It is credited as being from a Berthold Foundry catalogue. Does not specify which face it is though.

2) KunstHalle.png

From book about Swiss Graphic Design. The origins and growth of an international style. Page 214. Poster for Sculpture Exhibition by Armin Hoffman 1958.

Might be Helvetica compressed or something but not quite sure.

many thanks

If you're looking for an alternative, how about Hoefler & Frere-Jones' new (and Typophile-sponsoring) Tungsten?

Dear Auricfuzz,
Thanks for that nice font.
However still interested to know what the old school masters used.

this could be Anzeigen Grotesk by Haas 1943

Dear wmayer
Another Great Suggestion. However I don't think in either case its Anzeigen.
I am more interested in finding out what font the Basim Pastillen ad is as that actually came from a Berthold Foundry type specimen book.

Thanks again.

Basim Pastillen ... Berthold Foundry type specimen book

It’s gotta be Akzidenz Grotesk then.

Dear Jan,

Yup your right. Definitely. The Basim Pastillen.

Thanks.
