Not Quite Myriad, Not Quite Frutiger....

Fontophile

As you can see, the ’$’, ’y’, and ’9’ are a much closer match to Myriad Pro. However, the ’M’ (which has straight sides) is a better match to Frutiger. What, in fact, is the original?

Thanks!

If it isn’t Frutiger nor Myriad it could be Segoe.

hrm.. I was going to say: Akzidenz-Grotesk
but the $ is not identical

IMHO that is Myriad. The minor differences appear to be due to the reproduction

Most of it is a match to Myriad but the “M” is clearly different.

I guess you can see why there was such a ruckus a few years ago when Myriad came out.

I looked at Segoe TV, if that’s the one you meant Jan, and it seems closer to Frutiger than Myriad.

I was thinking I recently saw a new sans with a Myriad-like y, but can’t think where I saw it.

Another thought: wasn’t there a MM version of Myriad? Is it possible older versions, or MM interpolations, had slightly different details than the current OT versions from Adobe?

No, I didn’t mean Segoe TV but Segoe UI or whatever. Couldn’t find a specimen anywhere to check. Ascender doesn’t provide one for whatever reason. From what I’ve seen at least the ‘M’ in Segoe has vertical stems.

Hey Mike, good thought but it looks like MM still has the tilted “M” characters.

I certainly remember using Myriad MM back in the day... I’ll try to find it for comparison.

Agenda has that $

Wasn’t there an Apple-only version of Myriad? Maybe that had a different M?

the M loox a little like ITC Franklin at FontBureau

the $ is the same... but not the letters a y

could it be they only changed the M (for some reason)?
