Slap Your Co-Worker Day is coming October 23rd!!

realisticp

October 23rd is the official Slap Your Irritating Co- workers Holiday:

Do you have a co- worker who talks nonstop about nothing, working your last nerve with tedious and boring details that you don’t care about? Do you have a co-worker who ALWAYS screws up stuff creating MORE work for you?

Do you have a co-worker who kisses so much booty; you can look in their mouth and see what your boss had for lunch? Do you have a co-worker who is so obnoxious, when he/she enters a room, everyone else clears it? Well, on behalf of Ike Turner, I am so very, very glad to officially announce SLAP YOUR IRRITATING CO-WORKER DAY!!!

Here are the rules you must follow:

* you can only slap one person per hour - no more.

* You can slap the same person again if they irritate you again in the same day.

* You are allowed to hold someone down as other co- workers take their turns slapping the irritant.

* No weapons are allowed...other than going upside somebody’s head with a stapler or a hole-puncher.

* If questioned by a supervisor [or police, if the supervisor is the irritant], you are allowed to LIE, LIE, LIE!

Now, study the rules, break out your list of folks that you want to slap the living day lights out of and get to slapping on October 23rd..... And have a great slapping day!!!!

I guess October 24th is “Get Someone to Bail You Out of Jail Day.”

Perhaps what we need more is Tolerance Day where we refrain from any slapping or violence of any kind.

I’m missing the connection to type.

“Type” is derived from Greek “typto” to beat, to strike.

wow! Good call, Fontgrube! ;)

“Perhaps what we need more is Tolerance Day where we refrain from any slapping or violence of any kind.”

You’d probably change your mind on that if you had to sit near any of the people I sit near.

Workplace violence in the US: http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/workplaceviolence/

Workplace violence in India: http://www.workplaceviolence911.com/index.html

Given the actual serious problem, this is a poor excuse for humor.

How about learning assertiveness and problem-solving skills on Oct. 23 instead?

“You’d probably change your mind on that if you had to sit near any of the people I sit near.”

in my 48 years of working, I have sat near and worked for or with every imaginable kind of person on earth, including some pretty repulsive louts but condoning or resorting to violent acts is not an answer. I wonder what your coworkers think of you? Perhaps they may feel that you need the slapping? This never works. It just escalates. Learn to deal with the various types of personalities in your world in a peaceful way or risk violent retribution from them.

“I wonder what your coworkers think of you? Perhaps they may feel that you need the slapping?”

You do know that both the original post and my post were not serious, right?

Goggling, I see that this has been around since at least 2005 more or less word for word, sometimes prefaced with “in honor of Ike Turner”. There are also videos of a man slapping a woman and knocking her down.

I’d be interested in who the originator is, and whether they are still out of jail.

What’s ’not serious’ about the original post? Do you imagine that this sort of thing doesn’t inspire morons to hit people? A couple of years ago a ’punch a redhead day’ meme became popular among highschool students. One result of this was that a kid from my fencing class spent a whole day at school being punched by other kids, including many older and stronger than him, and went home covered in bruises.

“You do know that both the original post and my post were not serious, right?”

No, I didn’t. I guess I don’t find slapping people around to be very funny.

ChrisL

Sheesh, lighten up folks. Only a moron would assume that people will actually slap their co-workers as a result of such a posting ... and only a moron would hit someone for the same reason.

It is humor, perhaps satire on all the other “special Days” declared by the government and trade groups. And if you want to “mentally” slap someone on that day for real or perceived slights, then feel completely free.

I laughed when I saw the posting.

>Sheesh, lighten up folks.

Do you think the video goes along with the general hilarity? Here is the video that appears with many of the posts. I am guessing it has the same originator as the idea of this day:

Clearly, that video is way out of line. But it’s also not included in the original post in this thread.

Hilarious! The serious replies make this thread 10x funnier!

slap-happy…

So, it’s really type-dancing? Who knew.

I wonder if that list made the rounds at Abu Ghraib?

interesting thing about humour: Context seems to matter

Most males. OK, most slightly immature males (which is still most males) think the Three Stooges are at least a little bit funny. As do about 3% of similarly immature females. But there is always a big divide between their antics and real life that you have to accept in order to find them funny. Even as a little kid, when my friends and I would act out their skits and laugh ourselves silly, we knew that we could not really stick our fingers into each other’s eyes. There was never any doubt that the way they treated each other was only acceptable in the irrational world of the Three Stooges, where people can recover from being hit on the head with a 10 pound hammer in about 2 seconds just by shaking their heads and the audience can be shocked by their very violent behaviour while simultaneously being aware that it has no consequence. Which is, perhaps, how people can be comfortable with slapstick in the first place. Old ladies don’t break their hips when they slip on banana peels. It’s not real, doesn’t bare close scrutiny or cause anyone any harm and perhaps therein lies it’s cathartic effect.

If the joke above is funny, it’s to a smaller audience, perhaps. I meant, I really have no idea… I didn’t think it was funny, but obviously some do. It really looses a lot of momentum when it steps out of the slapstick world and presents itself as something in the real one - like a detailed list of violent assaults one is to commit in an environment where there are often real abuses taking place. Where people can go, and have gone–As they say–”postal”. Which is an expression that came out of real life events triggered by workplace bullying.

Sorry if this is a bit heavy, but just for some perspective, in the industry I work in, (but not the company I work for,) there was an incident a number of years ago: A man with mental issues was harassed and bullied. One day he brought a rifle to work. 4 people were killed. 2 were injured. As a result, very strict workplace harassment policies were instituted by my employer. Circulating that joke could result in some sort of disciplinary action and an automatic refresher course on the subjects of harassment, tolerance and respect for others.

Now then, if we could have that list set in Comic Sans…

Don’t any of you guys watch The Office? Jim steals all of Dwight’s stuff and puts it in the vending machine! Classic! No, it’s not violent, but certainly bullying. And punch a red-head day? Never heard of it. Sounds dumb, but hey, kids are mean to each other. Most people don’t realize that their kids are more resilient than they give them credit for.
