Can anyone suggest a heavy slab serif which is contemporary and a bit different?
I haven't figured out how to add a smiley yet. It took me months to learn how to add html to the links...
I have a book cover which appears to have Clarendon Italic on it - which I know does not exist. I tracked it down finally to Belizio.
Have you considered Dispatch from Font Bureau? It's a contemporary slab with extended weights.

I really dig Storm's Farao, though the letters "ICE" don't really showcase all its coolness.
A few other possibilities:
Giorgio, Hunter Black, Placebo Serif Bold & Spaghetti Western.
And if you're really stymied... you can always try Stymie.
wasn't what i was searching for, but very nice:
Sutro by Jim Parkinson.
Another sleek one:
FF Zine Slab
Okay, I think I found what I was searching for, something a bit more crystaline befitting of the word ICE:
Acropolis by HF&J
I especially love the italic of this one.
FF Zapata. 5 weights.
Ooooh, many, but I'll restrict myself to a couple of lesser known options.
Oxtail is subtly different, a contemporary take on Clarendon.
Fantabular is monospaced, which opens up a lot of design possibilities.
Silica is an often overlooked little gem by Sumner Stone.
ApexSerif is so contemporary it hurts.
Charifa is very geometric, inspired by Bauhaus.
Aminta is a re-interpretation of the typewriter style.
Barbera is nice'n'quirky.
Aurea Ultra has only one weight, but with a killer italic.
Tell me if you need more options.
Now I know what you're looking for I'd like to suggest Adore
by Pieter van Rosmalen.

It is, isn't it? It's got everything Clarendon has plus a few bonusses,
and it sports beautiful italics. Stefan Hattenbach is preparing a new
website which will showcase all of his type designs, regardless of
who's publishing them (he has fonts distributed by Psy/Ops and Veer,
and until recently Fountain and Garage Fonts). It sure is worth checking
out!

Coming from you, there was not a shade of doubt about your intentions.
You're one of the few persons who can post such a comment without
adding a smiley.
If it's just those 3 letters and a magazine masthead I'd say why not draw them yourself?
Also look at Base 12.
Yves, that Oxtail is really nice! Know where I can get a free version? (just kidding)
