Looking For Early 60'S Type

buzlink

I'm currently working a menu for a shop called Magazine's and Coffee and needing a few type suggestions.

The theme of my menu is that of TWA Moonliner due to the shop when it was still open was below the TWA building in KCMO. Any suggestions on supportive type I could use for the menu, I was using Futura but now not really liking it

I am also on a very small budget for this project, it being a re-do for school project. for portfolio.

Thanks

I doubt many from around the world will know what TWA Moonliner and KCMO mean but on the Veer site they have a '1960s Style' category under the 'type' tab.

On the MyFonts site you can search 1960s.

I was in design school from 1962 to 1966. The most popular advertising font at the time was Cooper Black in America but AG was the biggest in Europe. Clarendon was big also and Poster Bodoni.

Not to be a nitpicker, but I'm hoping the place is called "Magazines and Coffee" and not "Magazine’s and Coffee"

Yes Magazines and Coffee, sorry didn't catch that. KCMO is Kansas City, Missouri and Moonliner can be seen at the following wiki article.

Thanks for the input. Will take a look at the sites, and see what comes up.

It sounds like the Moonliner had a bit of a "space age" theme. If you haven't already, you might want to look into Googie architecture for more ideas. Some of the stuff might be too spacey, but it's from the right time period, so you might find some stuff that provides inspiration.

Clarendon would definitely be a good choice, but it's seen a big resurgence lately, so you might want to go in another direction to avoid looking like Ruby Tuesday or something like that.

This should fill the bill! http://www.fontdiner.com/menu_ifm.html

All fonts were inspired by airline ephemera from the 1950s and 60s
