Could the bottom of the E somehow loop with the S? Clever idea. I think the E needs to be as big as S, joining them will save space.

In this case "Emma" is dominated by "Steve", allthough she's sitting on his back.

I'd suggest to horizontally align "Steve" with the first "e" and take away the strong feet of "S", "t" and the second "e". In my opinion this would not only improve the balance between both names but also lead to a better overall Gestalt. I'd stay with the connection of "E" and "S" and would propably also combine "m" and "t". The seperation of the second "m" and the "v" feels too strict. Maybe getting the "v" combined to the first "e" and at the same time combining "m" and "v" on their right side will lead to a more subtle seperation and maybe make the heart a little less obvious, so it doesn't look so "planned".

Would be great to see a final logo that says: "Emma and Steve form a heart in a magically surprising way!" Right now it looks like there's a heart with surrounding letters that read Emma and Steve, which is already very good but I think the message could be communicated in a more effective way.

I really like your current approach and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it.

I do agree with your point about making the heart less structured and have aimed to make everything a bit more fluid. I have also addressed my issues with balance a little more by making Emma arch over a little more, rather than having a tall "E" and then the "mma" all run a long the same level.

There's still quite a bit of work to do, but I feel it's definitely heading in the right direction now.

Are you planning on working in an ampersand? It seems strange for it simply to be "emma steve"

WhitePepper, have you considered transitioning the left foot of left M into T's crossbar ?

pennANDink - I decided not to use an ampersand, as in effect the heart acts as a connector.

This leads me on to your point epsilicon - having two hearts was an option, but I thought it might become too over-the-top. Having 2 hearts would work also less well as an ampersand replacement, and the symbolism is slightly lost (i.e two names forming one united heart).

That's going to be the tricky part! I am not in least bit confident about that part of the process!

Although I may just draw it carefully by hand and scan it in - I'll probably get better results that way I think.

Here is my first 'real' draft of the logo. I've re-added the tail of the 't' to try and give the overall composition a bit more shape and structure as a logo, rather than just 2 names next to each other. I think this tail will need thinning out as it's dominating a bit, but would really appreciate your thoughts.

I think the tail on the t maybe isolates the a and e a bit. Could it join the tail of the e (mirroring the loop in the e and s) and in turn maybe run into the a?

The tails on the m seem a bit random.

The logo is definitely going in the right direction. Appreciate the whimsical take on the subject (the inspiration behind it - the provided link - explains the choice).

I would retain the assymetrical look of the t's tail, though trying to balance the overall weight of the design.

Latest version attached with the 'e' of steve looping into the 'a' of Emma.

This is looking great! I like your latest one and especially like the 't' swooping underneath the 'e'. It looks like a sword about to stab a heart.

I hope the vector turns out as nicely as the drawing.

I think the a is lost now. Somewhere in between both of the last versions, I think, lies a better answer.

I think the a needs to me more of an a. And then figure out how they join or overlap.

Okay, it's been a while but I've revisited this over Christmas and this is the latest version. I've decided to let the second 'm' attach itself to the 'a' with a little flick at the bottom - this avoids the 'a' looking too isolated or haing the 'e' awkwardly run into it.

The 'E' of 'Emma' is now lowercase to create a more pleasing looking arch over the top.

I'd really love to hear what you think - sorry it's taken so long to update this!!!!

This is cute, but something isn't clicking. I'm getting this vibe that the outside "envelope" needs to be a defined shape, not semi-random. A heart would be overkill. Maybe a circle or oval. Or maybe lips.

You may be right about giving it more shape. I don't want to go down the lips route, but a bit more overall balance should certainly help.

Here's a version based around an oval shape. The 'a' doesnt quite look right yet but I've made the heart more heart-like.

I think that helps.

BTW, does Emma's hair look like that first "m"?

To my eye, Emma now reads Emmce. Read aloud, it's MC Steve....which sounds like a rapper. Are they having a rap wedding? How would those vows sound? :)
