Open a font from an .otf file

jonathanhughes

I lost the latest revisions of a font I was working on due to a faulty flash drive. Luckily, I had generated an .otf file of the most recent version. Do I lose anything when I open up the .otf file in Fontlab and save it as a .vfb?

thanks!

Jonathan

You’ll lose stuff like metrics classes that only exist in Fontlab to begin with, and maybe some OpenType code won’t decompile the same, but those can be imported from older VFBs easily enough.

Cool. Thanks! I hadn't gotten to doing anything fancy yet, so it looks like I'll be fine.

thanks!

I had trouble with compiling the liga feature after opening an .otf. See Karsten's advice in this thread if it happens to you.
