An Outstanding Collection of Flair Alphabets

Oscar Bartos

A Flickr set of a small specimen book I found a few months back. Includes flaired Cooper and Univers, among others.

This is a great example of what people are talking about when they say that plenty of the photo-lettering alphabets should never be revived. And I learned that Bodidot is a classification! That’s right up there with “Garaldine”.

The specimens tend to be a bit over the top, as they are required to show as many swashes as possible.
Sure, a lot of typographers got carried away, but there were many lovely examples of flairing.
Canada Type has done a nice revival of Goudy Flair.
