I've just about given up on my search for a perfect typeface (for a logo project), and am now considering custom work. Can you guys give me some feedback as to where to go, what to expect (budget-wise), and how to start?

Write up and RFP and send it to some type designers/lettering artists who draw the sort of letters that you’re looking for.
I'm thinking custom lettering just for the logo — but will be selecting a couple of typefaces for use in conjunction with the logo; ones that compliment it well.
How about a list of recommended artists or foundries?
