Magazine page size

charlie_brown

Hello I'm trying to start my very own magazine and I was wondering if anyone knew the page size and margin sizes? Or if theres a good website with the format ,because I'm not sure what the font size should be either. Well thanks a lot and if I can get help it will be greatly appreciated. I really want to give this my best shot.

Magazines come in all shapes and sizes. So do the margins.

Head to the bookstore, browse/buy some magazines.
Remember to buy a ruler on your way home :)

Find a magazine based near you, and phone the production manager to find out where it is printed. Then phone the printers and ask what sizes they can handle. Most places have a range of sizes, depending on press and configuration.

At the same time you will be able to get some ideas of print runs and (though you will have to talk to a salesperson for this) costs with different types of papers. You will need to know these things as you work out your business plan.

You were thinking of creating a business plan, weren't you?

Yeah that's true I could always buy a ruler lol. Yeah a business plan definitely is the way to go. I'm just trying to make some progress I have all of my photos and my articles finished I just need to try some things out.Does anybody else have any tips for starting a magazine or formatting it? Thanks for all of your feedback though :)

But yes, as always do your research, find out what suits best your magazine.

Talk to your printer. They'll have a few sizes that work best with their presses.

Some common U.S. magazine sizes:

8" x 10.5"
8.125" x 10.875"
8.375" x 10.875"
