FontLab Key Commands

paul d hunt

I DID try searching but didn't find this topic, but has anyone documented a list of key commands available in FL5? I'm specifically interested at this time in key commands for adjusting R and L side bearings from the metrics window.

Tools -> Customize -> Keyboard. There are alot of shortcuts already there, and you can enable / add ones that don't already have a shortcut. But you probably already knew that. ;)

i'm trying to figure out the undocumented ones

On Mac:
Option+arrow changes the right sidebearing
Cmd+arrow changes the left one

On Win:
Alt+arrow does not work
Ctrl+arrow changes the left sidebearing
To increase the right sidebearing you must increase the left one and then move the glyph to the left accordingly.

Not sure if that was documented. :)

Regards,
Johnych

thank you johnych, i was afraid that this was the case for Windows :(

I'm nearly sure that there are equivalent keystrokes in FLS on Windows. Cant't remember right now, but try pressing ctrl and alt and arrows, and combine with shift and see what happens :)

Ctrl does what johnych cites above, shift increases units by x10.

Now I've tested it on Windows:

ctrl + alt + → = increase right sidebearing by 1 unit
ctrl + alt + shift + → = increase right sidebearing by 10 units
ctrl + alt + ← = decrease right sidebearing by 1 unit
ctrl + alt + shift + ← = decrease right sidebearing by 10 units

ctrl + → = increase left sidebearing by 1 unit
ctrl + shift + → = increase left sidebearing by 10 units
ctrl + ← = decrease left sidebearing by 1 unit
ctrl + shift + ← = decrease left sidebearing by 10 units

→ = move outline to the right by 1 unit
shift + → = move outline to the left by 10 units
← = move outline to the right by 1 unit
shift + ← = move outline to the left by 10 units

I'm using a German keyboard layout, but that shouldn't matter.

thanks, Jens! i was missing that alt key. also i'm sure you mean:

→ = move outline to the right by 1 unit
shift + → = move outline to the right by 10 units
← = move outline to the left by 1 unit
shift + ← = move outline to the left by 10 units

Ah, yes ... copy&paste error ;)
