/ THE CHALLENGE

Food is great. Fonts are great. Together they could be really really tasty. Craft the name of any food out of the food itself.

Winner take all, no holds barred. May the best designer win.

// REQUIREMENTS

- Image size: 550 width x 400 height. 72 dpi*
- Color: Black and White or color
- Format: JPG or PNG (make sure there are no spaces in the name)

*Please try to keep your file sizes to a minimum! 50k per file max.

// ABOUT TYPOPHILE TYPE BATTLES

This is your chance to stretch your type muscles on a weekly basis. You have one week to create and submit your entry. Anyone may submit a design response to the challenge. You may enter as often as you wish. Post anytime. Critiques and comments are welcome throughout the game, from participants and spectators alike. Smack talk is encouraged.

As with any street battle, there is no panel of judges and no prize — only the ability to call yourself the best on the block.

I know, it's not really food, but nearly as essential :)

mili

Some ingredients of our dinner today.

paul d hunt

yumm, gingersnaps!

Chris Lozos

The carrot is divine! and very appealing :-)

ChrisL

Nick Shinn

Cute, but not fonts.
And if they were, would they still look like food?

Gillian Fisher

Oops, I missed the Black and White requirement.

Chris Lozos

That's the way the cookie crumbles, Gillo.

Fair point, Nick. For the purists among us, this battle should be Food Lettering.

Godal

Not sure if this qualifies as food, but its made out of blocks of garden cress. Its edible at least :)

Chris Lozos

For anyone who has had children, food littering brings on a different meaning :-)
Oh! That was lettering! never mind.

ChrisL

chrisherron

Refined sugar refinement. Could have used an undo keyboard shortcut on this one.

In the raw version:

And after banging on the table a few times:

Tiffany Wardle

Chris, pardon the pun, but that is sweet! Is it based on Bernhard Gothic?

Chris Lozos

Looks more like it is based on Jack Frost Rounded :-)

ChrisL

chrisherron

"Is it based on Bernhard Gothic?"

Not consciously, but I think I owe some royalties!

cowroo

Here's my lunch:

Not easy to harness the inherent contrast in Bavette. :-)

Food for Live:
I just want to experiment when they go out to eat it and i was waiting for 24 hours.

let them eat it all!

Chris Lozos

It looks like that font won't compile--it is too buggy :-)

ChrisL

peachey

mmmm! I think I'll have Pasta tonight!

LIVE is very cool - however not very appetizing...

nina

Chris Lozos

Hmmm, hope the Narcs aren't around :-)

Please pardon my crappy phone camera, but this glyph appeared last night in my squash. I think it is quite nice actually.

Cerulean, those pretzels are smart! Love it.

karenhuang

I think Refined sugar refinement looks like it's been Gaussian blurred "after banging the table a few times". :)

David Berlow

"Does anyone know when this type battle ends?"
The next meal?

My son also enjoys playing with his food (he's 1.)
I hope he picks up on graphic design like his daddy
and grandpa.

I like the yamtype. Michael, did you try inking them up? (Not with proper ink of course, but with another foodstuff!) Can we see a print?

Ever since I chose to block pop-ups, my toaster's stopped working.

Acme Art and Design

@oprion Peeled skin makeready! Nice!

@dtw I didn't print them, though it was quite satisfying to lock them up in the chase... I just couldn't bring myself to run Yams through my press! Truthfully I also couldn't wait to bake them -- which didn't go quite as I thought it would -- I put them in the oven, and they just kind of withered and bloomed with black bits... perhaps I should have pan-fried them?

Michael Barker | Acme Art and Design

Dave Williams

Ah well, never mind.

CandyP

The pretzels one is my fav. Keep it up!
