trouble with dotted font

marcus sterz

hello,

when i was testing my new font, i discovered a funny phenomenon:
the printing shows some of the glyphs more bold than others, but in fontlab they are all equal.
also at certain sizes it’s certain letters (image: E, M, Q etc), at other sizes it’s other letters that look bold.

i thought maybe the printers just can't handle the amount of curves.

what do you think?

best,
marcus

This is Hinting most probably. But also make sure all your glyphs have single outlines.

thank for you comment!

the outlines are not the problem – they look ok.

what kind of hinting would you suggest?
does it even make sense to make hinting for a font like this?

Contour > Paths > Set PS/TT direction

i double- and triple-checked the path direction already. also there are no double outlines.

:((((

still the printing shows the same mistakes
(the image above shows a scan of the postscript-print, on the screen everything is fine)
