Art Deco / Streamline Moderne faces

goldray

I am currently doing a project for a restaurant in Glasgow. The restaurant is installing a new facade in the Art Deco/Streamline Moderne style and I am wondering what typefaces would have historically been used during the period. I am hoping to use a sans face in all caps as i know this is more in keeping with this particular architectural style. It should also present a more contemporary/modern appearance rather than a pastiche of the old. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

How about Sidewalk Cafe?

"Sidewalk Cafe will serve up a look from your Font Menu that’s delectably deco.
Though developed from a few hand-lettered words found on a 1930s poster, it retains a contemporary flavor."

;-)

Dont want to go that broadway/paris/cafe route. I'm thinking of something like Futura, as it's of the right era and can still look contemporary if set right. Did Streamline Moderne and the Bauhaus connect?

Neutraface maybe?

Have been working with Koch Orginal but Neutraface is more on the ball.

Thanks

Did you just try searching on Art Deco at MyFonts? There are over 800 choices to scan. Probably something that fits what you are considering, or maybe some new ideas?

As you are in Glasgow, why not use designs from your native son, Rennie MacKintosh?

If you do a search on MacKintosh at Myfonts, you will get a bunch of others also.
