logo feedback - web media company

atw

can you give me any feedback on this logo? they love it, I showed them a couple rounds of concepts that showed various plays on saws/horses, incorporating an actual saw horse into the letter ’w’ or ’m’ etc.

They ultimately liked this one the most because its like a saw blade and blades of grass (which they love), and nods to the company’s creative + simple approach to web projects.

Hi atw

i feel it hurts to stand up on those saw tips..

:)

yeah, its says “work is pain” ^_^

sure doesn’t look friendly or inviting.

Try moving the blades on top of the name, or flipping the blades so that they’re facing down.

I also think the blades look a bit cheaply done — like you spent 10 minutes with the pen tool. Try working with more blade shapes to create a friendlier, more thought-out look.

Consider using Fakir for the type if you’re going to keep the sawblades like that. :->

Seriously: Think about the white too. There’s some funky stuff going on in the negative space, and a lot of it looks accidental. That probably helps the impression that there doesn’t seem to be much conscious interaction/interconnection between the two elements, and that the type is just sitting there on top of the blades.
Maybe consider overlapping, too, to hurt the type less? :-)

saw blades aren’t really a great connotation for this type of work, are they?

How about exploring seeing-a-horse angle ?

revised the idea a bit. thoughts?

thx!

Chainsaw murder? What if you applied the “saw” motif to your more-circular letters?

much better than the first logo.
I’m really liking it!

This is much better and going in the right direction, but it doesn’t really look like a saw blade.
Why not use the shape(s) of real blades?

What if you had some of the “cuts” placed strategically to make the whole thing more legible? Like have them curve into the negative spaces of the letterforms, particularly between the A and W or S and E. Right now it looks like you made the grass blades separately and placed them on top of the text instead of drawing them into the text. Does that make any sense?

Revisited the concept with the client. They liked the ’grassy’ logo, but we all felt it was too far removed from both the word association w/ ’sawhorse’ and from their actual business — building simple, no-frills web applications from scratch.

This concept won them over because it references d.i.y. construction, coding, and a rough gesture of a sawhorse.

hmmm, I feel there is no closure on this thread.

care to elaborate @jeremiah?

We kind of skipped around through ideas, rather than an evolution of ’round 1’—’round 2’ etc. It’s what happens when I do design for friends and get lax about the process.

And the bar cuts through it as well (hints of “sawing” through things). Nice. This is a stronger concept and better executed as well.

I think the orange line is too large and for such a visual provoking name the outcome is rather bland.

altaira mentioned the white space between the type & the saw beneath it

I think something good will come out of this :)
