The 27th Letter

ivgroup

The purpose of this assignment is to develop a more acute understanding and appreciation for the intricacies of the letter forms that make up a typeface.

The assignment was to create an upper and lowercase 27th letter of the western alphabet. The focus is on the stress, stroke, and serif of each individual letter, all of which contribute to the overall look, personality, and readability of the typeface.

The typeface used was Times STD.

Interesting. How do you pronounce it?

Where I live the 27th letter is å ;^)

The left "stem" is a bit bold isn't it?

Michael

Agreed, the left stem is too bold.

But I'm already thinking ahead and saying "wow, I REALLY don't want to have to design the italic version of that glyph."

Jason

It was a class project, we had 60 minutes to design it... 4 people in a group! Yes, I agree with jasonc, it looks italicized. Thank you for your comments!

@Mill .. we were thinking of iev, like a russian. I wish we could upload a sound file, it would be so much easier to explain!

Thank you again!
