Any one know font for Odwalla log?

teraks

it would be nice if you identify the logo font and the "nourishing the body whole" font

thanx : )

This may be the first instance I've seen in which Antique Olive actually looks fairly contemporary. I guess all lowercase and tight spacing can do that.

I think the »contemporary« comes from the web2.0-photoshop-3D-look of the button all in all.

Hah. Naw, it would still look new without the gloss.

i just don't get some designer... this is nice, but why use antique olive for this job? and what is with that clip-arty bird/crocodile type thing?

there isn't even the 'gloss' affecting it...

argh!

> i just don’t get some designers... this is nice, but why use antique olive for this job?

good question.

the logo was designed in the early 80s. Below is a version from ~1984.

Odwalla was originally based in Half Moon Bay. (population then, guessing less than 10,000)

Odwalla began in Santa Cruz in 1980 with three friends, a used $200 hand juicer and a few boxes of oranges. Greg Steltenpohl, Gerry Percy and Bonnie Bassett squeezed the juice in a shed behind their home then delivered it to local restaurants. One box of oranges was used the first day. Profits from that day bought two boxes of oranges the next day marking the beginning of Odwalla.

so some factors to consider:

1) there wasn't DTP

2) tight tracking of typefaces was probably still considered happening.

3) the three founders were probably moving at a fast pace, and took something from a local designer without much thought.

just speculating. :D

but i think the logo has stood up well over time.

As for the gloss and stuff, it could be any current designer working for Coca Cola. And for some reason, they haven't redesigned, even after some deadly E.coli outbreaks and other bad PR.

wow, thanks!

"nourishing the body whole" appears to be Blockhead Unplugged.

I like Antique Olive. Hrmph.

really miss tiffany? what do you like about it? i just can't seem to warm to it.

(ps, what is 'Hrmph'?)

I think it just reminds me of a period of time. It is unorthodox and I like that too. Although I don't know if I like it all crammed up like that.

'Hrmph' is my old curmudgeon noise.

have you found it appropriate to use in a design?

i just never have... maybe that is my lack of designer skills talking, but i just can't make it work.

(and i suspected that, but was unsure... so thanks!)

Yes, I've used it before. Not recently. And not that I'd show it to anyone now. But at the time I remember it working very well. Now I suppose I need to put the font (so to speak) where my mouth is and use it again.

heehee, i'd love to see it used really well!
