I love it, but to me, I see an uppercase I at the same time I see the N. So when I first saw it I assume the company's initials were IN (or NI), to PN.

It's very nice, but I'm wondering if it might be confusing, especially since the N is the first letter of the second word.

I must agree, I can see the 'N' and and 'I'. I can't see a 'P' though. Surely the 'Precision' is more important than the 'Networking'. Can they change their name? Ha. Maybe to 'Integral Networking' or 'Important Networking', just kidding.

It is a great mark, though I'm not sure it fits 'Precision Networking'.

It is a great mark ... but yeah ... unfortunately I don't know that it lends itself to the communication at hand.

that said though ... it's all dependent on how the overall identity is viewed.

Thanks for the comments, guys. The 'I' being visible on the mark is exactly the feedback I got outside these forums too.

As far as representing the Precision part goes the idea was to use sharp edges to do that. Apparently it's not obvious from the mark alone.

Let me post few more versions of the mark (later today), perhaps those would work a bit better.

Top two are the variations of the original mark. These are meant to reduce the visibility of the 'I' in the mark. Additionally the striping is meant to evoke an association with a ruler, which in turn is related to something precise.

The same idea is applied to the bottom two marks, though I'm not sure if the ruler relation is that obvious.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

Actually there is a far simpler option:

Do it the other way - leave the northwest and southeast lines. Then you've got your 'P's.

Thanks for the suggestion, Lex. I tried it and 'P' is not that obvious. Also the "arrows" are lost, and these are an important part of the mark.

In the end I went slightly different way. I'll post the final version once it's ready.

I guess the option of renaming the company into "Important Networking" is off the table then :-)

So far a few folks have said, "It's a nice mark but it doesn't say 'networking' to me".

That criticism often comes up here, even tho some of the most successful and effective logos around use an animal or a tree that has nothing to do with the company or what it does as the main mark, for example the Penguin Books logo.

What about a reverse P flush against a N?

I have to force myself to see a N, which sort of defeats the point. What is their focus, Precision, Networking, or Precision Networking? Their mark should be a reenforcing. If you want to use the N as the focal point, then you may want to look at a Serif font with bit more curvature that allows you to incorporate at the P shape hinting. San-serif offer that precision of 90 degree lines, but really that's a big stretch.

As for why Penguin Books' logo is successful is because the Penguin is usually printed on a book, thus you don't really need to reiterate the book aspect of the book. When you see them as a sponsor of an event, I believe they have the Penguin logo with their name spelled out as well.

I think V1 is pretty good (except black, not gray), but the "n" isn't
showing enough. I'd make its arch more "traditional" (like in mine).

That seems to work. The only thing is that the concept of precision
is absent... Can you do something with the spike at the bottom of
the bowl of the "P" that might convey precision?

BTW, I don't know what's wrong with me, but I was thinking

@epsilicon: I really liked the direction the logo was going so far with the compound P and n. It's very good, memorable and also readable. It's simply great. Maybe it does lack some precision, but that can be achieved as well.

In any case, the final revision of the original N-based mark is this (sorry about small raster version):

It is light, simple, symmetrical and it also implies a ruler, which captures the 'precision' part of the name.

While I am quite proud of it, it is kind of hard to work with because of the unbound negative space on both sides of it. So I have ultimately decided against using it and go with a wordmark instead. I'll post it separately in a bit.

@litera: P+n is a deliciously simple mark, I agree with you :-) It'd be a shame not to recycle it for some other project.
