A confidant yet feminine looking font

Jen15

Can anyone give me some suggestions for a very "confidant" looking font, yet has some feminine characteristics? I would prefer that they not be script fonts. Fertigo Pro is one that comes to my mind.

Thanks!

Jen

You may want to check out Gudrun Zapf von Hesse on MyFonts. She has some beautiful faces that may appeal to you.

I do not think they sell Nofret but that is another beautiful face based on her 50's coup Diotima.

Michael

I might try a rigid italic. I can't think
of one now, so let me show one of mine:

Here are a few I thought of:

Bree
Lola
Dolly
PMN Caecelia
Archer
Feijoa

Hope those help.

I've been working on a sans with that exact brief, but it's not totally finished yet. Daphne

Jen, you might like Fontin on which Fertigo Pro is loosely based on.

Fontin and Feijoa are very nice and are a bit softer than some of the other suggestions. I just wish that the branching in Feijoa was a bit less "stabbed." The l/c r is good but the h,m, and n are a bit curt.

Michael

Check out Odile from Village.

Cronos, Chaparral, and Fontin came to mind for me fwiw

How about Eva from OurType?

Rahim

Thanks everyone! Those are some great suggestions.

All display fonts are metrosexual.

>All display fonts are metrosexual.

Except Metro(s)?

http://www.myfonts.com/search?search%5Btext%5D=metro

And Trixie isn't very, uh, Trixieish....

I know the designer of Odile...and I'd call her confident yet feminine.

So, in summary...go with Odile!

Your question implies that women lack confidence. Are you suggesting this?

Or are you saying women are not necessarily feminine. Only the feminine ones lack confidence?

In my life, most women I encountered were both feminine and confidant, except women feminists, who were neither very feminine nor very confident.

I think that they suffered from an inferiority complex, and confused identity, as they wanted to not be themselves, were embarassed of it, secretly wanted to be men, and be awarded everything a man has (except that :) - well, maybe they wanted that, too). I don't know why we call them 'feminists'. We should call them...uhh...lesbians.

Rahim,

I don't think that she's Eva, but the web site is really great. Good name, though.

Jen15, Chris, and Curiousity,

I vote for Odile. I looked at many typefaces, and this one is very good: feminine in a very positive way, plus beeming with non-show-offy confidence (the secret pearls of a smart woman).

Maybe instead of confident Jen meant... incisive? Which is something women are less than men, which however is part of their power.

> We should call them...uhh...lesbians.

Ridiculous.

hhp

I'm a feminist. It's a political belief, Israel, not conditional on gender or sexual orientation.

(Huge sigh of relief after reading the last post.)

Although being an actual woman is a distinct advantage Nick.
And I don't think it's political - it's moral.

hhp

It's true you don't have to be Marx to be a Marxisit!

At least according to Fox.

Psychological babble is a big yawn when your looking for a new typeface.

I highly recommend Odile from Vllg:

Also Eplica is also a fabulous choice as well:

Mikey :-)

Thanks Mikey!

Welcome to typophile

Minah is beautiful and feminine without being saccharine or cutesy.

Deva Ideal by Jan Filipek

What is the deal with this "gohebrew" guy?

ChrisL

Chris, as they say in Yiddish: Don't ask :)

As they say in Greek, "Mashugana" :-)

ChrisL

At least he's not covering up his -confused- belief system.

hhp

The putz wandered into the Latin forum and got dazed by the divinely inspired forms : )

Michael

Nick,

>I’m a feminist

So am I, but some women who claim that they are feminists too, do more damage than good for women politically.

I'm surprized that others have not had the pleasure to encounter such specimens of the femine gender.

Before I'm labeled as a male chauvenist pig (is that kosher?), a racist, or a good old putz, there are an equal number of men who are macho 'male-ists'.

Hrant,

>I don’t think it’s political - it’s moral

Hi, again.

Moral? How?

As I understand it, feminism is a movement that advocates fair treatment to women, and to remove discrimation of women.

Unfortunately, some women have taken "equal rights" too far, and prefer to diminish qualities of women and project male qualities upon women.

This is political, or social. How is feminism moral?

Mikey,

You're right. Eplica is also very good. I loved the "E".

William,

Although I did like Minah from FontBureau, I failed to see its feminine componant, more of less incisive.

dezcam, william etc.,

>What is the deal with this “gohebrew” guy?

I lent out my laptop to some black kid from Harlem. It's not politically correct to call him a "meshuganer" or a "putz".

In Israel, that's even called 'incitement', and they jail you for that.

But, only if you disagree with the government or are Orthodox. If you are for the government, or neo-Reform, it's OK to say whatever you feel in your heart.

Free Speech for almost anyone.

The true proof of a chauvinist (correct spelling, schmuck) is that they don't think they are one. Screw the smily face!

I guess you think you are either the downtrodden or you are above the government because you are Hasidim? Get a life!

Michael

dezcam

:-) ... Where can we tune in?

I lent out my laptop to some black kid from Harlem. It’s not politically correct to call him a “meshuganer” or a “putz”, or a "shumck" (correct spelling, type-error).

>Screw the smily face!

As they say in Torah literature, "the water reflects the face looking into it".

What does this mean?

In English, there is a somewhat similar saying, "it takes one to know one".

I heard children sing:
"Sticks and stones may break my bones,
but words like yours will never hurt me -
I am rubber, you are glue:
what bounces off me,
stick to your highness"
(just kidding, highness usually comes with talent).

Downtrodden - under your feet,
Above the government - only G-d (remember Him?).

Except in Nazi Germany.

William,

Is this menshlichkeit?

Or should I follow the Bible's advice and "not answer a fool"?

Well, I tried to stop the coming avalanche with a joke, but I knew it was inevitable.

I think ii's a sign of immaturity to get personal when another person shares a different opinion. (In psychology, that shows on poor self-esteem.)

Torah literature describes a wise person being able to tolerate two opposite views in his or her mind.

Actually, here I think Michael is just bearing a grudge from another exchange. He's actually a very talented type designer, which must come from a certain sensivity. However, judging from his posts, he seems also like a bigot. A talented bigot, mind you.

I, on the other hand, love a good fight. :)

Why would you think me the fool, Israel? Is there no thought of fault on your part?

Do not try to teach me... for if you think you are above me, then you are beneath me by your sanctimony... if you think you are greater than me you are lesser than all that I shelter and defend here... and if your pride is such that you perceive you have risen above all around me, you have fallen by your own flaws.

Answer all the fools that you have offended by calling them names here.

Edit:As to the bigot remark... you are the one who has continually insulted groups by the score!

And as to loving a good fight... most religions propose discussion as opposed to your brand of overbearing pomposity!

Michael

Here you go, Jos :-)

ChrisL

Thank you William. Seems that the rude and arrogant Orthodox could learn something from the tempered and compassionate Manners of the Reform.

Michael

Chris... is this HD?

"Actually, here I think Michael is just bearing a grudge from another exchange."

Actually Israel I am REFORMED. I wasn't going to bring up your idiocy from the previous thread,

Michael

:-)

ChrisL

William,

>Why would you think me the fool, Israel?

I never called you a fool. Immature, maybe.

If one belittles another person because he or she view things differently, this isn't foolishness. Pigheaded, maybe. But, not foolish.

I know it is an affront to you Israel, O Holy One (ha ha), but the Merriam Webster spells schmuck that way, so deal with it! Funny, I had not looked it up for 47 years since my mother taught me the word and made me look it up. Goes back to my Yiddish enculturation : )

Oh, and you have never SHARED a different opinion. You stonewall your opinions until everybody walks away from fatigue.

Michael

My name is not William, dumb ass! He's the Reform combatant!

Michael

I see this battlefield.... Reform, Orthodox, Christians, Muslims, and then all of a sudden Israel gets confused and can't figure out who to fight!!!!!

Oh, the fun that ensues. Almost like forgetting where your keys are.

Michael

Israel, exhibit some tolerance and shut the H*ll up.
No matter how anybody else is behaving, be considerate
towards this place, and how others have come to use it.

hhp

"Do not try to teach me"

Say our wise sages, "Eizehu chacham? Halomayd mekol adam."
This means, "Who is wise? One who [is willing] to learn from anyone?"

Say the foolish ones, "Do not try to teach me, for I know it all."

Michael,

>if you think you are above me

I never said this, nor do I think this.

No person is above another person, except G-d (and maybe the Jolly Green Giant).

Michael,

>if you think you are greater than me...

Greater is relative.

I think that I have greater patience, but you have greater impatience.

"Answer all the fools that you have offended by calling them names here."

Did I call every feminist a lesbian?

Some are my best friends are feminists, and some are lesbians.

Who was offended?

If one was offended, them I'm sorry.

Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry...

> And as to loving a good fight... most religions propose discussion as opposed to your brand of overbearing pomposity!

Ah, I got secular roots...

> Seems that the rude and arrogant Orthodox could learn something...

Sounds bigoted to me.

Hey, I got a cross to hang me on.

> ...I wasn’t going to bring up your idiocy from the previous thread...

Reformed from what?

Reform are usually nice people.

You seem that you dropped out of some place, where everyone is angry and frustrated. You must be something else but Reform.

> I know it is an affront to you Israel, O Holy One (ha ha), but the Merriam Webster spells schmuck that way, so deal with it! Funny, I had not looked it up for 47 years since my mother taught me the word and made me look it up. Goes back to my Yiddish enculturation : )

William, could you tell him it's a German spelling.

In Munich, they say it that wayt, not Virginia.

> ...dumb ass...

I know Michael's kind. The last time a Jew with a yarmulke was seen in Reston, he was hanging from a tree.

hrant,

> Israel, exhibit some tolerance and shut the H*ll up.
No matter how anybody else is behaving, be considerate

Christians believe in "turning the other cheek", even to a foolish remark. Jews do not. I assume that Muslims believe like Jews in this regard, as is said, "Everything the Torah says is true" - the Koran

If a pig-headed fool belittles what I hold dear, in the end he or she will be revealed to all as just that, a pig-headed fool.

Here you go, Jos :-)

I knew you would tune in :-)
Thanks. Also for the special Dez Boulder treat. Looking great!

People, I have to recommend the silent treatment.

hhp

hrant, I think that you're right on second thought.

A Muslim teaches a Jew.

If Jews have a Golden Age, I'll give you a job as my poet. : ) (You write poetry, don't you?)

please stop :=(

ummm...

where's the type guys?

you mean the moderators?... good question.
